Wallowa Lake, Oregon (pictured in the background) Wallowa Lake was formed by a glacier (about 9 million years ago). The lake is 5 miles long, and a mile wide, with a depth of 283'. As early as 1880 hotels, restaurants, and boat services even a dance hall were available at Wallowa Lake. The lake is approx. 1 mile from downtown Joseph, Oregon and offers a trail head that takes you deep into the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area.
